Intro by Doug "DJ Dart"Greenwood - "Here at SINergy, we have always strived to create an atmosphere of immersion, and that has, from day one, included live music. From our early days in a pub back-room, through three clubs, we have had live DJing throughout, and the difference it makes to the game is extrodinary.
Firstly, it creates a constant background atmosphere, which means that, no matter what you are doing In-Character, you always feel that you are in a club environment.
Secondly, if the music stops for any reason, you know something is happening...
And thirdly, it means that the music can be reactive to in-game events, creating a further level of atmosphere normally not developed in LARP systems.
All involved with the musical side of the game are very proud of what we bring to the system, and we constanly aim to improve our efforts in bringing our audience, the player base, an interesting experience.
Stylistically, we face a difficult challenge, because it's rather difficult to emulate the music of thirty-three years time from now. So, rather than trying to create an unfamiliar soundscape of obscure music simply for the authenticity of the thing - which would, of course, disorient many attendees and perhaps damage the overall atmosphere of the game - we instead have a dedicated roster of DJ's who play different stylings of music and which encompass as broad a spectrum of styles as can be fittingly used within a dark future cyberpunk genre. Between the team, we currently cover modern rock & goth, darkwave, electro, metal, 'alternative' & punk, EBM, drill'n'bass, dance, classic rock, eighties & new romantic, indie, classical, neo-classical and even modern folk and world music - quite a mix I'm sure you'd agree, and by no means exhastative. We also have efforts underway to create our own music and include live performances by musicians amongst the player base, as well as possibly outside it. We also encourage new talent, and are happy to give people the experience of actually trying out DJing for themselves, under our tuition.
With player input, we aim to tailor the musical style as closely to the audiences' personal tastes as well as keeping people on their toes by surprising with new and unexpected styles. As a team, the SINergy DJs are friendly and approachable, and understand that our audience are our priority.
Of course, we are also involved in the game as players ourselves, and play our characters to the hilt, which means we sometimes get attacked for our own tastes - and retaliate! - which brings us back to the original point: we are here to help make the game as involving and immersive as possible, and the music is something which truly helps distinguish SINergy from many other live games.
I'm personally very proud of what we have with SINergy, and I'm glad that we have such a dedicated team of people intent upon improving upon that, and bringing to you the best gaming experience possible.
Over to the team..."
DJ Johnny Ekko : "The Nightmare Asylum is famous for uncompromising music standards and cutting edge sounds. At Pandemonium, we have a generally "Hard Core" sound - that's Hard Core for all styles. Pandemonium is a night for serious edgerunners and cyberclubbers alike. Expect the unexpected, and expect the dance floor to get bloody. I blend rock, metal, punk, hip hop, drum'n'bass and techno genres to go for that futuristic "cyber-sound". Industrial edged anything - Aphex Twin, NiN, Sex Pistols mixes - dance remixed metal - White Zombie, Fear Factory - old Goth - Sisters, Bauhaus, Siouxsie - old punk - Dead Kennedeys, Pistols - and all the darker electro and D'n'B I can lay my hands on - Orbital, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, Ultra Sonic Sound, Krust, Source Direct, Generation X'd...
DJ Nemesis : "I play a varied selection. Industrial, Old Goth, newer Goth Metal, some shouty-grrl rock and a bit of indie here and there. And then there's the odd track that gets thrown at me. Reasonably happy to do requests, as long as I've the time and space, and as long as the club doesn't go to hell in a handcart and throw me completely off... "
DJ Decay : Noisecore, Gabba, Industrial, Drill'n'Bass, Drum'n'Bass, Glitch, IDM, Darkwave, Techno and assorted electronica / experimentation / remixes.
DJ Snowdrop : Stays true to the 1980s roots of the cyberpunk genre in all their neon-sockless rolled-back sleeves materialistic glory; as well as a few other bits and pieces from all over. If no one else would consider playing it, he probably will.
